On September 30, Stephen Lecce, MPP for King-Vaughan, attended an Onam celebration held by the Vaughan Malayalee Association at the Vellore Village Community Centre in Woodbridge. Onam is a traditional harvest festival celebrated by the Malayalee community hailing from the Indian State of Kerala. Onam not only commemorates the bountiful harvest but also symbolizes the spirit of unity, equality, and inclusiveness.

“The Malayalee community works hard, gives back, and raises their children with a strong focus on personal responsibility, academic achievement, and generosity of spirit. It was a special honour to celebrate Onam -- a time of change as mark the harvest season -- with so many young Indo-Canadians who are proud of their heritage and doubly proud to be Canadian,” said MPP Lecce. “As you celebrate this auspicious festival of Onam, may your home be filled with joy, love and abundance. Happy Onam!”
