On June 19, Stephen Lecce, MPP for King—Vaughan, along with Laura Smith, MPP for Thornhill, were given the distinct honour of presenting the first-ever Best Canadian Film Award at the Vaughan International Film Festival. The nominated films in this category were Inkwo When the Starving Return, Goodridge: The Price of Glory, and Maybe Elephants.
"In this important moment as Canadians, we celebrate the True North, Strong and Free — our values, our culture, our identity that unites us," said MPP Lecce. "Canadian cinema has that unique power to reflect who we are, where we came from, and the stories that shape us. This year's nominees for Best Canadian Film each bring a distinct voice and vision to the screen. Congratulations to Inkwo When the Starving Return for receiving this distinguished award!"
