On October 15, Stephen Lecce, MPP for King—Vaughan in his capacity as Ontario's Minister of Energy and Mines was joined by York—Simcoe MPP Caroline Mulroney, King Township Mayor Steve Pellegrini, and King Township Ward 6 Councillor Avia Eek to officially open the York Battery Energy Storage System in King Township. Construction on the site began in October 2024 and was built within a year.
"I was thrilled to join MPP Mulroney to officially open the York Battery Energy Storage System — the largest battery storage system in King’s history," said MPP Lecce. "This made-in-Ontario project stores affordable power during off-peak hours and delivers it back when demand is high — keeping costs down and strengthening our local grid. This is a win for families and our economy."
