On July 14, Stephen Lecce, MPP for King—Vaughan, joined Vaughan Mayor Steven Del Duca and Members of Council for the official groundbreaking of the new Family Recreation Area at the North Maple Regional Park. Since the closure of the Keele Valley Landfill in 2002, the North Maple Regional Park has been built in its place, with this project adding new nature playgrounds, waterplay, a winter skate trail, a pondside boardwalk, a picnic pavilion, flower gardens, and an upgraded parking lot.

"The North Maple Regional Park is a powerful case study of how partnership can transform a former landfill into a world-class recreational space for all families to enjoy," said MPP Lecce. "I am proud to work alongside Mayor Del Duca to improve this year-round park and build a dedicated space for families. Thanks to this strong collaboration and Vaughan's vision, new splash pads, skate trails, boardwalk, and a large family picnic pavilion will be open next year right here in the heart of Maple."
