On May 30, Stephen Lecce, MPP for King—Vaughan, was the Honourary Co-Chair for the McMichael Canadian Art Collection's Annual Moonlight Gala, alongside Vaughan Mayor Steven Del Duca. Last year, MPP Lecce secured a historic $50 million to renovate and modernize the McMichael—the single largest provincial investment in the gallery's history and the first in over 40 years. MPP Lecce spoke about why Canada's unique art, heritage and identity must be preserved as Canada doubles down on its sovereignty.

"The McMichael is a powerful symbol of Canada—one that represents our culture, identity, and sovereignty," said MPP Lecce. "There has never been a more important time to revitalize and rejuvenate the McMichael and what it stands for, which is why our government invested $50 million to make that happen. As we stand up for Canada on the world stage, we our doubling down on protecting Canada's treasures—from the Group of Seven to Indigenous Art—with undeniable pride in our country."
