On December 14, Stephen Lecce, MPP for King—Vaughan, joined the local Jewish community for menorah lightings on the first night of Hanukkah, which came in the wake of an antisemitic terror attack in Sydney, Australia earlier in the day. MPP Lecce participated in menorah lightings with the Jewish Russian Community Centre, the Chabad Russian Centre of Thornhill Woods, and Chabad Romano.

"In a world filled with darkness—I am asking you to be the light," said MPP Lecce. "The attack in Sydney, on the first day of Hanukkah, is a painful reminder of the consequences of unchecked antisemitism. Amid this tragedy and dark hour for the world is a reminder of the story of Hanukkah—that the Jewish people have overcome evil and wickedness for thousands of years, standing strong through unity and purpose. As Anne Frank once said: 'A single candle can both defy and define the darkness.' This Hanukkah, be the light in your community—and to my friends in the Jewish community, know you are not alone, and that you have friends in the government that are standing with you. Chag Hanukkah Sameach."
