Ontario Investing Over $12.7 Million to Support Hospital Operations in Western York Region
VAUGHAN — The Ontario government is investing $12,754,000 to support improved operations and reduced wait times at Mackenzie Health. This funding is part of a $1.1 billion investment into our hospital sector as part of Budget 2026, A Plan to Protect Ontario, which represents a 4 per cent increase in annual support for the fourth year in a row.
"Our government is doubling down on our commitment to deliver better healthcare, closer to home by once again increasing funding for Mackenzie Health's hospital network," said Stephen Lecce, MPP for King—Vaughan. "This increased funding will help meet patients' needs at both the Richmond Hill Hospital and the Cortellucci Vaughan Hospital, where last month we announced a newly dedicated primary care team — expanding access to a family doctor for over 13,000 residents in King, Vaughan and York Region."

Investing in our health care system means investing in the wellbeing of every resident in our community.”
This investment will support the operations of Mackenzie Health’s core clinical services so they can better meet patient needs. This includes funding to address increased patient volumes across Mackenzie Richmond Hill Hospital and Cortellucci Vaughan Hospital, support inflationary and wage pressures, and reduce wait times for diagnostic imaging and surgical procedures, so that people can connect to care faster.
“Our government is making historic investments to protect Ontario’s health-care system, ensuring that more people in Richmond Hill and King—Vaughan can connect to the care they need, where and when they need it,” said Sylvia Jones, Deputy Premier and Minister of Health. “This investment will allow Mackenzie Health to continue delivering the highest standard of care while reducing wait lists and wait times for patients and families, for generations to come.”
Ontario continues to make historic investments in health care. Over the next 10 years, Ontario is investing approximately $64 billion in major health infrastructure. This is part of the government’s plan to get shovels in the ground on more than 50 major hospital projects across the province, which will deliver approximately 3,000 new hospital beds to enhance access to quality care and build a connected, people-first health-care system.

Mackenzie Health is a dynamic regional health care provider that includes Cortellucci Vaughan Hospital and Mackenzie Richmond Hill Hospital, each with a full-service emergency department, core services such as surgery, medicine, critical care and medical imaging along with specialized programs. Its community-based locations and services continue to provide additional support to western York Region, one of the fastest growing and most diverse communities in Canada with more than 550,000 residents.
The Ontario government is investing $257 million in 2025-26 to support critical infrastructure upgrades and repairs at 126 hospitals and 66 community health-care facilities across the province, a 12.3 per cent increase from the previous year.
