CALEDON — The Ontario government is protecting the province’s tourism and sports industries by investing $1.5 million to support the 2025 RBC Canadian Open at TPC Toronto at Osprey Valley in Caledon. The signature Canadian event has been contested since 1904 and is expected to draw over 125,000 attendees and generate tens of millions in economic activity through tourism, hospitality and event services.
“The RBC Canadian Open is one of the world’s most prestigious golf tournaments and its continued choice of Ontario as their host highlights our reputation as a premier destination for major events,” said Neil Lumsden, Minister of Sport. “Our government is proud to support this iconic Canadian event and help protect the jobs and significant economic benefits it delivers locally and provincewide while boosting tourism in Ontario during this uncertain time.”
The RBC Canadian Open is the third-oldest continuously running tournament on the PGA Tour. In 2024, over 130,000 fans attended the tournament, supporting local jobs and contributing more than $88 million to Ontario’s economy. The government’s investment will support the event experience, help attract more international visitors and generate significant economic benefits for the province.
“The province of Ontario has been a true partner to golf, and we are extremely appreciative of the continued support of Premier Ford, Minister Lumsden and their entire teams with their meaningful investment into Canada’s National Open Championship,” said Laurence Applebaum, CEO of Golf Canada. “Hosting this PGA TOUR event in Ontario in partnership with RBC has been a rich and fulfilling endeavour for our participating athletes, host golf courses, for our economy, and for all the fans and event enthusiasts who make the RBC Canadian Open a tremendous national championship. The province recognizes the exceptional considerations of conducting a world-class professional golf championship and is committed to building domestic sport and helping to enhance the RBC Canadian Open as a significant event on the Canadian sport landscape.”
In 2024, the Ontario government invested over $54 million in the sport and recreation industry across the province to support grassroots sports, promote healthy and active lifestyles and strengthen local economies.
