Today, Jane McKenna, MPP for Burlington, announced that a new health and safety kiosk has been installed at Burlington GO station to provide passengers access to safety information and help protect the health and well-being of all local transit users. “As the province gradually reopens and the Burlington GO station begins to welcome more of our local transit users back, the new kiosk will help our residents feel confident and safe when they ride a GO train or bus to get to work, home or wherever they need to go,” said McKenna. The new health and safety kiosk will share tips and advice with passengers on how they can stay safe and follow the latest public health guidelines. In addition to keeping vehicles and stations clean, GO Transit is offering a way for customers to put their own disinfection measures to the test. “These new measures build on our government’s recent release of the comprehensive safety guidance for public transit agencies, developed in consultation with health and transit officials. This is part of our effort to ensure transit agencies can protect employees and passengers during the COVID-19 outbreak,” said McKenna. “The province and Metrolinx are committed to delivering safety support to local communities, like Burlington, across the GO transit network.” Metrolinx has also implemented more than 40 measures, including providing hand sanitizer dispensers, applying a long acting antimicrobial germ protecting barrier on trains, buses and stations, and additional deep cleaning and disinfecting in all vehicles and stations. Starting on July 21, Metrolinx will mandate the use of face coverings on both GO Transit and UP Express services to ensure every passenger has a safe journey.
